SOLIDARITY AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Unconventional Medicine

SOLIDARITY AND YOUNG PEOPLE The indifference that is often manifested towards physical and mental handicaps should make us ponder, in order to adequately address neurological and psychiatric diseases. The welcome, the care and socialization towards the elderly suffering from dementia, are certainly an issue that is increasingly affecting today's society, and that should be broadened.

It is important, therefore, to increase the awareness of these diseases. This effort is carried out by associations specialized in this field, which were created to defend the rights of patients, and provide support to the caretakers and their families, whose lives are totally disrupted by the assistance required by their loved ones affected by Alzheimer. Among the many Italian associations that are dedicated to such cause with initiatives, conferences, and courses focused on quality assistance of the patient, I would like to mention the “Associazione Malati Alzheimer e Telefono Alzheimer Umbria” (A.M.A.T.A. Umbria), based in Perugia, whose chairman is Dr. Annalisa Longo, originally from Salerno.
I think that the activities to raise awareness should be aimed primarily at the young people, to make them realize that the elderly, our grandparents, need to be helped and cared for, during this difficult period of their life bristling with obstacles. These grandparents, with their teary eyes, and their sweet desire to embrace their grandchildren, never ask for anything in return. They fill our lives with stories and thoughts. They have faith in our strength, and remind us of our duties, using examples from their own lives. They always have a smile, ready to tame the tough ones. They want our care more than our gifts.
It appears increasingly impelling to get the young people involved, and understand that the hope for a better future for our grandparents lies with them. It will be you, with your enthusiasm and courage, to say no to the suicide of humanity. Be united and helpful, patient and caring, never selfish and greedy, loving the poor, not despising the migrants, the misfits, the mentally ill, and the marginalized, but share their tragedy. Help your neighbor, confident that his hand is stretched out in search of love, and in need of affection.
The magic of life is all in a simple gesture of love. "With Love, you will save the world", said Raoul Follereau in his address to young people.
Humanization of the care of health that was the basis of the mission of Pope San Celestino V and San Camillo De Lellis, and already present in the Medical School of Salerno, should also be the basis for today’s health professionals’ activities. The patient must be perceived as a whole, mind, body, spirit, without neglecting the environment in which he/she lives. It is the physician’s primary intent, to involve all the emotional connotations when dealing with suffering people, to be close to them with his own baggage of feelings, dreams, skills to "always comfort, often treat, and heal as much as possible."

But that's why you write, to write down in the memory emotions, events, objectives, and take a snapshot...read

Ethics and communication in times of crisis If we ask what is meant by the term all communication, we find that overall there is a common understanding of its meaning, at the most confused with information, but if we ask what ethic means, particularly when applied to the field of healthcare, there is greater difficulty in finding a common definition. Most people would relate it with the testing of drugs, others to various ethics, penal, or...read

OCCASIONAL INSOMNIA: A DISORDER THAT SHOULD NOT BE UNDERESTIMATED Nearly 12 million Italians are likely to spend a “sleepless” night with consequent impact on quality of life and physical and psycho-physiological functions. Insomnia is nothing but an experience of inadequate or poor quality sleep, which can manifest as difficulty of falling asleep or staying asleep, and can be occasional or chronic, if it lasts more than a month. It is important that...read

New pharmacological approaches in menopause and cardiovascular protection The loss of ovarian activity and of production of estrogen during menopause is responsible for different clinical manifestations, some immediate, others long term, causing not only the appearance of the typical climacteric symptoms, such as hot flushes, night sweats, changes in mood, vaginal atrophy and dyspareunia, but also a modification of glyco-insulin, lipid and bone metabolism, and an...read
