An approach of memory by the optics of medical philosophy

The memory system began to be studied in ancient philosophy and nowadays its research, basically, belongs to the cognitive neuroscience. At medical science is still, till today, unproven the mechanism of its funtion. The medical philosophy can achieve the difficult attempt of formulating and expressing of the assumptions about the mechanism of memory, which could afterwards be proved,as actual mnemonic functioning.

The memory,as the most basic of human cognitions,is the ability to learn and acquire knowledge and experience.

For psychoanalysis, something is memorized when it becomes memorable, that is when it is ‘’copied at the signifier chain''.When a signifier is excluded from the chain, it is important to search for the reason of the exclusion, during the analysis.

The presentation of the sensory -visual,haptic or audio- material is leading to the reception, processing and correlation of the information and its coding. Some of the information is creating a permanent record, which can be retrieved,in response to certain processes or activities.

These stages of mnemonic process have been copied to modern technology and it is impressive that, while we know the exact technological mechanism of the creations,we elude, till today, the precise biological process of human memory. The Phonograph was the first audio encoding with the entrance of the voice through a funnel and its mechanical recording through a membrane and an needle on a covered, with a detailed sheet of stannum, cylinder.Namely, carries out what our acoustic receptive system does. There are many more examples of the modern era, such as photocell, simulation of the eye,and the electronic computer, which codes based on the binary system, stores information and enables to recall it.The basic difference between these modern technologies and humans is the existence of human will in the administration of these mnemonic stages.

Another analogy I made during my memory research,is that, between the stages of memory and DNA.Initially, both are based on codification.DNA is constituted by nucleic bases, which every three of them form a codeword, while at memory the external stimuli are encoded in anatomical, physical or chemical changes in synaptic knobs or postsynaptic neurons. When we explore memory,we discover that stimuli are copied from the external environment in the brain, while at DNA replication, the genetic material is copied and transferred from one cell to the other. On biochemical studies scientists have been found that, during the storage of memory a number of active neurons are increasing the RNA,namely the product of the transcription of the DNA.Finally, the translation of DNA achieves the synthesis of proteins, after the decoding of nucleic bases in aminoacids and their connection. Thus, recall of memory is also the successful result of the decoded analysis and re-storaged combination of synaptic changes, namely the translation of the signifier chain, which produces activity and creativity and gives purpose and meaning to the human existance. As the formation of cellular proteins, during translation,is very important, because it constitutes the basis of our biological existence,so the memory is the point in our lives, because without it there would be no creation, progress, history and civilization.Memory is the only strong evidence of the existance of the past and the most optimistic message, that we exist for a more creative future.

Systems Biology Systems biology is the study of biology through systematic perturbation, the global read-out of the multifaceted response and integration of these data to formulate predictive models1. Classical biology is based on a reductionist model in which the systems are first broken down into their single components, and subsequently, the various “pieces” are reintegrated into the system. This...read
